Opened in 2003 as the first place in the country built for children's stories rather than books as objects, Discover gives its visitors the tools to make their own: the Story Worlds are two floors of sets to climb through, dress up in and tell tales in, the Story Garden has a ship and a monster's mouth, and the upstairs gallery takes an author or illustrator at a time - Julia Donaldson, Oliver Jeffers, Jacqueline Wilson - and builds their book at child height. Authors visit most weeks; the storytellers on the floor are the main event.
