Michael Bond bought a lonely teddy bear at Selfridges on Christmas Eve 1956 and named it after the station near his flat; A Bear Called Paddington came out two years later. Marcus Cornish's bronze of 2000 sits on platform 1 with the label round his neck reading 'Please look after this bear. Thank you' and his suitcase beside him, at roughly the spot where the Browns found him sitting on it near the lost property office. His hat is polished by thousands of hands a year.
