Carlo Gatti stored Norwegian lake ice here for London's ice cream trade; you look down into the wells through a grating. Narrowboats, horses and the trade that built the basin outside.

The museum also runs canal boat trips in season, separately from admission — check what is running and book before you come rather than turning up hoping.
