The UK's first national LGBTQ+ museum, free, in three rooms on Granary Square.

Britain had no museum of its queer history until this one opened on 5 May 2022, two months short of the fiftieth anniversary of the country's first Pride march. Joseph Galliano-Doig, a former editor of Gay Times, and Ian Mehrtens founded it in 2018 and spent four years staging shows in borrowed rooms before the Art Fund gave it the ground floor of its building at 2 Granary Square. Three connected galleries build a national collection from nothing: protest banners, photographs, a panel of the AIDS memorial quilt, the stories of the footballer Justin Fashanu, of Club Kali, of the Black Lesbian and Gay Centre and of Dora Carrington and Lytton Strachey, in displays that change every year. Its first full exhibition won the Museums Association's award for the best small museum project of 2022. Entry is free.
