Richard Dadd: Beyond Bedlam

The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke and a hundred other works painted inside the asylum.

Art & design

At Royal Academy of Arts.

Dadd was an RA Schools prodigy painting Shakespearean fairy scenes when a journey through the Eastern Mediterranean tipped him into delusions; he killed his father and spent the rest of his life in Bethlem and Broadmoor, where he went on painting with a jeweller's precision from memory and legend. Over a hundred works, The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke among them, with loans from Bethlem, the V&A and Yale. £15, free for Friends.
