Being Human

Fifty objects on what it is to be a person now, including a jukebox of epidemics.

Art & designScience & naturePermanentFree

In Wellcome Collection.

The Wellcome Collection's permanent gallery, free, on the first floor, and its only one since Medicine Man closed in 2022. Fifty artworks and objects across four sections — Genetics, Minds and Bodies, Infection, and Environmental Breakdown — on what medical knowledge is doing to the way people understand themselves. A refugee astronaut carries their belongings to somewhere unnamed; a bronze sculpture has been perfumed to smell of breast milk and you are meant to lean in; a jukebox plays epidemics. Captions are online in full, and every exhibit has a recorded audio description.
