Bushy Park

Richmond's quieter neighbour: a mile of chestnuts, the Diana Fountain and free-roaming deer.

The second largest Royal Park and far emptier than Richmond, with the same red and fallow deer and a great deal more room to yourself. Wren laid out Chestnut Avenue as a mile-long approach to Hampton Court, with the Diana Fountain at its centre; the Woodland Gardens, fed by a seventeenth-century water course, are at their best in spring. The Longford River, cut for Charles I in the 1630s to carry water from the Colne to Hampton Court, still runs through the park and feeds the gardens.
