GoBoat Kingston

The upper Thames, where the river stops looking like London.

Boating

Also in What’s On.

Out from Kingston into the green, slow stretch of the Thames above the tideway - swans, willows, Hampton Court somewhere downstream. A canopy is available if you ask for it when booking, which on an English afternoon is worth doing. Self-drive electric boats you steer yourself - no licence, no crew, no instructor sitting with you. Eight people, a table in the middle for a picnic, a silent motor and a top speed of 3.5mph, which is about walking pace. Open daily from 09:30 until sunset, weather permitting, so the closing time moves through the year; the booking system has the day's actual hours.
