An elevated walkway on viaducts of timber and concrete, with glass balustrades along it and the Thames below. Diller Scofidio + Renfro designed it with Neiheiser Argyros - the same practice as the High Line - and it is meant to be strolled rather than crossed: the Italian passeggiata was the model, and there is planting and somewhere to stop the length of it. Art is the other half of the idea, so it carries commissions rather than just views: a poured staircase by Ian Davenport, a typographic series by Marwan Kaabour, seven hundred metres of balustrade wrapped in colour by Liz West, and the Greenwich+Docklands festival using it as a stage. Steps and a lift at each end, riverside at Tide Square and up at Peninsula Square. What is built is the first stretch; the route is meant to reach five kilometres round the peninsula.
