Notable building
Mid-nineteenth century, stuccoed, three storeys over cellars, double-fronted with three windows and a canted three-light bay on the return beside a blind window. The pub frontage is wooden, and the doorway is the piece of it worth stopping at: Corinthian pilasters carrying an entablature with a dentil cornice, a broken segmental pediment over the door itself, and a curved wrought-iron lamp bracket above that. There is a panelled dado below the windows, and recessed sashes with architraves and cornices on the first floor.
It was restored in 1984, and when the entry was written nobody went inside: "interior: not inspected" is all the record says. What is on the register is the front.
For fifty years it was on that register as the Edinburgh Castle. The spelling was corrected to Edinboro, which is how the pub spells itself, in February 2024.
