Five houses run together into one pub, whose early-twentieth-century fittings still serve three separate rooms.

It was never built as a pub. Five houses of the earlier and middle nineteenth century - two in Parkway and three round the corner in Albert Street - were run together and given a pub front late in that century and again in the twentieth. The result is an irregular range: three windows to Parkway, a bowed corner carrying big wooden-framed windows, segmental-headed below and mullioned with small panes above, and seven more windows round into Albert Street under a continuous cast-iron balcony. The Albert Street frontage is tiled, with round-arched entrances and keystones over the windows.
Inside, the good early-twentieth-century bar counter, the panelling, the cornices and the fittings all survive - and they survive in three distinct spaces, which is the part that matters. A pub assembled out of houses usually loses its divisions first, because knocking through is what turned the houses into a pub in the first place.
