Notable building
Built about 1880, four storeys over a basement, brick with stucco and stone dressings and two principal fronts, three windows to Upper Street and five round into Islington Park Street. The ground floor is an arcade: round arches on Corinthian columns of polished grey and pink granite, the spandrels filled with recessed panels of scrolling foliage, and ornate bracketed stops at either end of the fascia.
Above that the architect keeps going. Round-arched first-floor windows under a Lombard frieze, the outer ones pedimented; second-floor windows linked by a springing band under arches whose tympana carry incised natural ornament, over a brick corbel table; an attic storey of segmental arches whose keystones are worked into a modillion cornice; and an arcaded parapet across both fronts.
Be warned about the inside before you go in for it: the interior was very extensively refurbished around 1988, and Historic England records that no original features of interest survive. The building is the reason.
