Historic interior
A large Victorian corner pub on Old York Road, facing Wandsworth Town station, run by Young's with a dining room and rooms to stay in above - which is rare enough in this part of London to be the reason some people know it. It takes its name, as a great many pubs put up in the 1860s do, from the Battle of the Alma of September 1854, the first engagement of the Crimean War.
It is a sports pub on match days and does not pretend otherwise, and a neighbourhood pub with a kitchen the rest of the week.
