Performance venues

London's stages and concert rooms: the West End houses and the playhouses that make their own shows, the grand halls, the churches with a musical life, the jazz basements, the comedy clubs, the clubs proper, and the rooms above pubs where things start. What is on is listed under each venue, and in What's On.

What is on at them this week is in What's On: Performance

Steve Rubie has run it since the start and books almost entirely UK-based players, which makes it the most reliable place in London to hear the people who actually live and work here rather than a touring bill. You go down steps from a residential street with no sign worth speaking of.

It is a supper club - the tables are laid, the music starts late, and it runs on well past 00:00 at the weekend. Non-members are welcome, which was not always true of it and is worth saying because the name suggests otherwise.
