The Wenlock is a plain Victorian corner pub on a back street off the City Road, put up in 1836 beside the Wenlock Brewery that is long gone, and it looks from outside like the sort of place that gets demolished. It nearly was: a developer had it, the regulars and CAMRA fought a campaign, and it came back.
Inside is a single bar, a piano that gets played, a fire, and no attempt whatever at a concept. That is the point of it. Hackney around it has changed beyond recognition and the Wenlock has declined to.
