Thomas Brock's memorial of 1911 puts Victoria in marble facing the Mall with a golden Victory above her and figures of Courage, Constancy, Truth and Motherhood around the base, in a rond-point Aston Webb laid out as the climax of the processional route. Its steps are where the crowds stood for the balcony appearances of the last century - VE Day, the coronation, the weddings, the jubilees - and where the television cameras go; the view up the Mall from here is the one in every royal film.
