Built for the Duke of York in 1825 and now the Foreign Office's house for summits and treaties, Lancaster House has a Louis XIV staircase hall so grand that Victoria, arriving from the palace, is supposed to have said she had come from her house to a palace. It played Buckingham Palace through The Crown - the audiences with prime ministers, the corridors, the Queen at her desk - as it had in The King's Speech, and Churchill gave the coronation banquet here for the real Queen in 1953. Not open, but the front and the yard are a few steps from the Mall, and it appears on Open House some Septembers.
