One of the six churches Nicholas Hawksmoor built under the Fifty New Churches Act, finished in 1729 for a parish of Huguenot weavers, and the boldest of them: a portico of four huge Tuscan columns, a tower that becomes a spire without appearing to change its mind, and inside a nave of giant columns under clear glass. It was derelict and propped with scaffolding in the 1970s; a restoration lasting thirty years brought back the box pews, the plaster and the light. Concerts are held under the vault.
The church lists its visiting times on its own site; it is also open around services and concerts.
