The two turbine halls became the shopping floors when the building reopened in 2022, and there are more than a hundred and fifty shops, bars and restaurants between them and Electric Boulevard, the pedestrian street laid out from the halls to the Underground station. Apple took the Boiler House above the shops for its London offices.
The interest here is that the two halls are not the same: they were built twenty years apart, so you walk out of one decade's engineering and into another's while shopping. Circus West Village, the first part to open, runs along the river in the railway arches and holds the smaller independents.
