The first two hundred metres from Kensington High Street are Uniqlo, Mango, Jigsaw and Reiss. Then the street changes and does not change back: from about the two hundred and eighty metre mark to the top at Notting Hill Gate it is dealers, one after another, more than twenty-five of them.
They are specialists rather than general antique shops, and the specialisms are narrow. Amir Mohtashemi sells Indian and Islamic works of art, Jorge Welsh and the Japanese Gallery Asian ceramics, Howard Walwyn nothing but antique clocks, Mrs M. E. Crick chandeliers, Butchoff and Patrick Sandberg English furniture, E & H Manners English porcelain. Several are on the ground floor of houses with the stock upstairs as well.
