The best baking in London. Bread, cakes, viennoiserie and patisserie worth crossing town for.
Manakish baked to order on the hill between Kensington High Street and Notting Hill Gate.
Manakish is the point: a round of Lebanese flatbread on a vegan dough, baked to order while you wait. The plain one is za'atar, thyme and sumac and sesame in oil; after that come salted akkawi cheese, spinach with onion and pomegranate molasses, harhoura of onion, tomato and harissa, lahmeh bi ajin of minced beef and lamb, kafta, a spicy sojok sausage under two cheeses, and a double layer stuffed with akkawi, halloumi and za'atar oil. The sweet one is hazelnut chocolate under pistachio dust.
Ka'ak is the other half of the counter - the handbag-shaped sesame street bread of Beirut, which this family were the first to sell in London - with hummus pots, cold mezze and Arabic cookies beside it. This one is near the foot of Kensington Church Street, the hill of antique shops that climbs from the High Street up to Notting Hill Gate.
The bakery publishes one set of hours for all three shops: Monday to Friday 07:30 to 18:30, Saturday from 08:00, Sunday 08:30 to 17:00.
