A wholesale fruit and vegetable market on the edge of Heathrow, supplying grocers, cash and carries, restaurants and school kitchens across west London. The traders deal in volume and in range: the ordinary crops, and the ones the supermarkets do not stock - the mangoes, the herbs, the chillies, the hard-to-find varieties that the Southall and Hounslow shops sell on.
The hours are odd even for a wholesale market: it opens at a quarter to midnight and trades until half past eight in the morning, six nights a week. Individual traders keep their own hours inside that, so anyone going for something particular is expected to ring first - and so should anyone going only to look round.
