A 1,500-seat Art Deco house on the Strand, at a stage door where an actor was murdered in 1897.

Ernest Schaufelberg rebuilt it in 1930 in straight Art Deco lines - no curves anywhere in the auditorium, which was the point he was making - and it seats about 1,500. It is historically protected.
There had been a theatre on the site for a century before that, and in December 1897 the actor William Terriss was stabbed to death at his private entrance in Maiden Lane by a man who had worked backstage. It is the only murder of a leading actor at his own theatre in London, and the alley is still there.
It takes touring and commercial musicals rather than making its own.
