Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr left the National Theatre and built this by Tower Bridge, opening it in October 2017: £11.6 million, Haworth Tompkins, and no subsidy behind it. The auditorium is the point. It seats 900 conventionally but is designed to be taken apart, and has been reassembled in the round, as a thrust, and with the stalls removed altogether for a standing audience moved about by hydraulic platforms, which takes it to 1,100.
