An art deco cinema left exactly as forty years of neglect found it, and used for gigs.

The Savoy opened on Kingsland Road in 1936 with over 2,700 seats. It stopped showing films in 1984 — the last was Scarface — and spent the decades after as a snooker hall and a wedding venue. The team behind Village Underground reopened it in 2018 as EartH, Evolutionary Arts Hackney.
The decision that makes it worth going to is that they did not restore the auditorium. The raked theatre upstairs is bare concrete and stripped plaster with the seats taken out, and it is left that way on purpose; the sound is startling and the room looks like nowhere else in London.
