English Touring Opera: Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice

The first opera anyone still stages, rebuilt with electronics.

Opera

At Hackney Empire.

Gluck's 1762 Orfeo threw out the ornament and stopped the plot for nobody, which is why it survived when almost nothing else from that decade did. English Touring Opera bring it with new instrumental and electronic re-composition by Leo Grant. 19:30, about two hours forty-five, £10 to £45; ages 12 and over.
