Hackney's oldest building, a medieval church tower with a working sixteenth-century clock.

The tower is what is left of the parish church built around 1275; the church was pulled down in 1798 when the new one opened across the churchyard, and the tower stayed because the new one had nowhere to hang the bells. It has a turret clock of around 1600 that still runs, tended by the trust that looks after the building. On open days you climb past the clock to the roof, for the widest view of Hackney anywhere.
