An Art Deco cinema of 1934 that has been a two-thousand-capacity gig room since the eighties.

J. Stanley Beard designed it and it opened on 17 December 1934 with a Compton organ, William Robin Bennett having done the interior. It stopped being a cinema in 1970 and came back as a music room in the eighties, and the shape a cinema gives you - a raked floor, a balcony, sightlines built for a screen - turns out to suit a band better than most purpose-built halls.
Twenty-three hundred now, after a rebuild in 2007. Bjork played her first solo concert here in 1993, when the place was the Town and Country Club.
