Elizabeth Gaskell's small town of formidable women, with Tamsin Greig in the middle of it.
Books & writers
Lin Coghlan and Shaun McKenna have adapted Gaskell's 1853 novel and Josh Roche directs, with Tamsin Greig as Matty Jenkyns alongside Sara Crowe, Abigail Cruttenden and Alexandra Gilbreath. The town runs on rules nobody wrote down and everybody obeys, and the railway is coming. It is very funny about bonnets and cake and entirely serious about what it costs to keep a place the way it is. In the round, so nobody is far from it.
