The LPO open their season with the Requiem Britten wrote for a rebuilt cathedral.

Britten set the Latin requiem against Wilfred Owen's poems, for the consecration of the new Coventry Cathedral in 1962 beside the ruins of the bombed one, and asked for an English, a German and a Russian soloist. The Soviet authorities would not let Galina Vishnevskaya come. 19:00.
