Bertie Crewe's 1911 house at the top of Shaftesbury Avenue, where the ceiling came down and ended the London run of Hair.

Crewe opened it in December 1911 with 2,500 seats; it holds 1,416 now and is historically protected. It sits apart from the rest of the Avenue's theatres at the Holborn end, which is why it feels like a building rather than one of a terrace.
Hair ran here from 1968 and was a few performances short of its two thousandth when part of the ceiling fell into the auditorium in 1973 and closed the house. The show never came back. Large musicals now.
