Southwark Playhouse has been moving since 1993 — a railway arch, a warehouse, a container yard — and Elephant is the first building made for it: a 300-seat theatre on Dante Place, opened in 2023, with a rehearsal room and a bar. It runs alongside the company's Borough house rather than replacing it, and takes the larger productions.
