Southwark Playhouse was founded in 1993 and has been evicted, relocated and rehoused repeatedly since — a railway arch, a warehouse, a shipping-container yard on Newington Causeway. The Borough house has two rooms, the Large and the Little, and programmes musicals, new writing and revivals at a scale between fringe and West End. Its second building, Southwark Playhouse Elephant, opened nearby in 2023.
