Performance venues

London's stages and concert rooms: the West End houses and the playhouses that make their own shows, the grand halls, the churches with a musical life, the jazz basements, the comedy clubs, the clubs proper, and the rooms above pubs where things start. What is on is listed under each venue, and in What's On.

What is on at them this week is in What's On: Performance

Ministry of Sound

The club built around a sound system, in a disused Elephant bus garage since 1991.

GigsLate

It opened in 1991 in a bus garage off Gaunt Street, modelled on New York's Paradise Garage and built the other way round from most clubs: the sound system first, in a purpose-designed room called the Box, and everything else fitted round it. It became a record label big enough to eclipse the club for a while. Still open on weekends, still very loud.
