Paxton's glass building was rebuilt on this ridge in 1854 and burned down in 1936, and what survives is the ground it stood on: two enormous stone terraces with balustrades, sphinxes and flights of steps, all facing north-east. From the top the land drops and south London runs out to the City cluster and Canary Wharf on the skyline. Free and open.
