London's original outdoor concert bowl, where Pink Floyd played to 15,000 and Bob Marley played his last London show.

The bowl was cut into the park in 1961 and holds about eight thousand people on the grass, looking down at a stage across a lake. Through the 1960s and 70s it ran the Garden Parties, which is how Pink Floyd came to play here to fifteen thousand in May 1971, and how Bob Marley came to play his largest and final London concert here on 7 June 1980 - there is a blue plaque for it in the Rastafari colours.
In 1997 Ian Ritchie Architects put a permanent stage in it: oxidised steel with an angled roof, an active acoustic system of forty-six speakers that was the first of its kind outdoors, and room for a hundred-piece orchestra. It was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize and locals named it the rusty laptop. It has been out of use since 2007 and is still waiting for the money to restore it.
The concerts have not stopped. They run each summer on temporary staging, and the line-ups are as large as the bowl - Grace Jones, Tom Jones, Nas, Lenny Kravitz and Kneecap among this year's. The rest of the year it is a slope of grass with a very good view.
