The gardens fall away north from the museum and the terrace by the bandstand gives one of the clearest long views in south London: the City cluster and the Shard on the skyline, Canary Wharf to the right of them, and the North Downs behind your shoulder. The gardens are free and open every day whether or not you go into the museum.
