Family-owned and on the same St James's site since 1698, with the sloping floors and the enormous coffee-bean scales still in place - the shop weighed customers for two centuries and the ledgers survive. Two royal warrants. The range runs from own-label claret you can afford up to the top of Bordeaux and Burgundy, and the shop is far less intimidating than its history suggests.
