Brown's opened in 1837 and was London's first grand hotel, put together out of a row of Mayfair houses by a former valet to Lord Byron. The Drawing Room is the front of it: panelling, fireplaces, deep chairs, and live music through the afternoon, which is unusual enough that people book for it rather than around it.
Thirty-odd teas including the house blend, finger sandwiches, plain and fruit scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserve, and cakes brought round on a trolley so the last course is chosen at the table.
