Where to get the classic British tradition of sandwiches, scones and sweet treats, with tea and sometimes bubbles.
Tea in the hotel's own foyer, in the jade-and-white striped china that is Claridge's signature.
HotelOver £80
The Foyer and the Reading Room run into each other under Claridge's art deco, and tea is what the rooms are busiest for. The china is jade and white stripes and has become enough of a signature that the hotel sells the set so people can lay it at home.
The sandwiches are built on British specialities, smoked Scottish salmon among them, and the pastries change with the season. The teas run from a deep oolong to the house Claridge's Blend, and the staff will put one against the food rather than leave you to guess.
Three versions - traditional, champagne, rose champagne - except between early November and the first days of January, when the festive tea replaces all of them.
Booking recommended
Traditional £95, with champagne £110, with rose champagne £125. From 3 November to 3 January, except Christmas Day, only the festive tea is served, at £120 on weekdays and £130 at weekends. Booking essential.
