The Savoy has served afternoon tea since 1889, when fashionable London came for sandwiches, patisserie and thes dansants with a band playing. It happens now in the Gallery, under a stained-glass dome that lights the room from above: peach-toned, planted with palms, a marble walk down the middle, and a pianist through the afternoon.

Finger sandwiches, the hotel's own scones, patisserie, and more than thirty teas to choose between. A high tea adds a hot savoury course; champagne is extra.

If the afternoon is gone, Twilight Tea runs from six, which is the same idea after dark with a cocktail instead.
