At Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration.

"Illustrating is like directing a play, except that you also get to design the scenery and play all the parts," Blake has said, and this is the first survey of what the theatre did to his line. It runs from street entertainers and circus acrobats through pantomime and puppetry to Shakespeare, Aristophanes and Beckett, and includes drawings made on opening nights — Olivier in The Entertainer in 1957 among them — the Punch and Judy crocodile behind Roald Dahl's Enormous Crocodile, and his Macbeth characters drawn as birds, shown publicly for the first time.
