Charlotte Place

A one-block lane behind Goodge Street where the tables come out and the lamp comes on.

Lanes & alleys

Charlotte Place at blue hour, the Duke of York at the far end.

Barely a hundred paces between Goodge Street and Rathbone Place, too narrow for cars and lined with small restaurants, a barber and a pub. The buildings are plain Georgian brick with shopfronts cut into them; what makes it is the scale, the single lamppost in the middle of the paving, and the fact that on a summer evening every chair is outside.
