Playing the Changes: Tracking Darius Brubeck

The pianist who took jazz education to South Africa in 1983, with a conversation afterwards between him and Mark Kermode.

At Phoenix Cinema.

Darius Brubeck is Dave Brubeck's eldest son, and in 1983 he went to Durban and started the first degree course in jazz studies anywhere in Africa, at a university that was still operating under apartheid law. Michiel ten Kleij's film follows what that meant in practice, and the musicians it produced.

Brubeck and the critic Mark Kermode take questions afterwards.
