The Chancery Lane Safe Deposit opened in 1876 renting strongrooms to Londoners who wanted somewhere safer than home. The silver dealers who rented them gradually took the place over, and it is now the largest concentration of antique silver retailers in the world.
You go down a staircase and through a vault door into a corridor of shops, each one a former strongroom. Entry is free and the stock runs from teaspoons to Georgian centrepieces.
