The Polledris opened it in 1949 and their grandchildren have it now, and it is a café counter before it is anything else - coffee, cakes, chrome stools, flags over the door. But it is licensed, the Aperol spritz is the thing people order after dark, the Peroni is cold, and it goes on serving long after the bars on either side have put the chairs up. Standing outside with a glass is half the point. The room above is where John Logie Baird first demonstrated television in 1926; the blue plaque is over the door.
