In 1942, with the collection evacuated, the empty rooms hosted Artists Aid Russia - over nine hundred works by living artists for Clementine Churchill's Red Cross fund - and a Soviet exhibition of photomontage and banners opened by Ambassador Maisky. The free display reconstructs both from the archive and surviving catalogues.
