It is a field rather than a park: grass left to grow, a fringe of trees, and no paths laid across it. The playground on the London Road corner has a large sandpit and a climbing area, and there is a café. Local memory says the ground was never built on because it is a plague pit, which is where the name people use for it comes from; nothing has ever been found to show it is true.
