Opened on 1 June 1878 as Sydenham Recreation Ground, on land that had belonged to the Mayow family, and it is the oldest municipal park in the borough. More than twenty veteran pedunculate oaks stand in it, the best collection in Lewisham outside Beckenham Place Park. There is a cricket square, tennis courts, a meadow left to grow, and a café in the pavilion.
