Olga Polizzi did the room - wood panelling, deep armchairs, and a wallpaper of animals nodding to The Jungle Book, which Kipling is said to have written while staying in the hotel. Adam Byatt oversees a British menu with a Mediterranean lean, so the pasta is made on the premises, and there is a spiced loin of venison when the season allows it.
